The Viking Sword: A Captivating Evolution

Originating in the 8th century, the Viking sword evolved from the Migration Period sword, eventually transitioning into the classical knightly sword of the 11th century, marked by the emergence of larger crossguards. These swords, typically measuring around 37 inches in length, often showcase a tapered point and a deeper central fuller, or blood groove, along the blade's center as the period progressed.

During the middle of this epoch, the use of pattern welding, a technique involving the forging of twisted rods into the blade's surface, diminished, being replaced by iron-inlaid names and designs.
